Dr. Johanson’s work has produced some of the most groundbreaking discoveries in the study of human origins, including that of the 3.2-million-year-old australopithecine skeleton known as “Lucy,” which he unearthed in Ethiopia in 1974. In his remarks, he will recall Lucy’s discovery and explore the lessons learned from looking at humanity through the lens of time.
A native of Chicago, Dr. Johanson received his doctorate in anthropology from the University of Chicago. He has taught at Case Western University, The University of California at Berkeley, and Arizona State University, and has been curator at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
